Experiments
Things I built to learn something, and what I was trying to learn.
- AquariumA low-poly fish tank where the chemistry is the game: real species, sourced traits, and water that has to balance. I built it to learn how the browser, WebAssembly, and the machine work together.
- PhotoboothA webcam photobooth with 71 real-time effects written in Three.js, from shader filters to full 3D scenes, plus face tracking and background removal with MediaPipe. Snap stills, 4-up strips, or short clips. Everything runs in the browser.
- Anatomy of a Web RequestAn interactive walk through one web request: DNS, TLS, the CDN, the server, the data, and where the time goes. I wanted a way to show what happens between typing a URL and seeing a page, one phase at a time.
- SynthA browser synth you play from an Akai MPK Mini or your computer keyboard, with drum pads, loop tracks, and WAV export. Built on the Web Audio and Web MIDI APIs.
- SoundboardA small, quick build: eighty sound effects in six categories, each one a clip from Wikimedia Commons.
- Quiet ArcadeThree small games, Snake, Fleet, and Stack, in plain black and white with no sound and no flashing. An arcade that stays calm on purpose.
- Just This OnceA plain-English, hands-on primer on superintelligence risk for people who don't work in AI. Ten small demos: train a model by thumbs-up, run a treaty table, beat Shannon's guessing game, watch a feed learn outrage. Inspired by If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies.
